Term 3 Week 7

Tongan Language Week

Malo e lelei everyone! To start off Tongan language week we had our opening ceremony led by some of our beautiful students who also shared some amazing facts about the island of Tonga.

Our Tapa (Ngatu) patterns
In Tonga, tapa is known as Ngatu, and it is of great social importance and is often given as gifts during times of celebration.  The Rising Stars looked at sketching some of these patterns found on ngatu and here are our pics...

Art: Olympic Silhouettes

In Visual Arts we have been working hard on completing our Olympic silhouettes pictures. First we selected a sport and looked at sketching the silhouette onto the centre of our white paper. We then created our background of random lines and coloured in our silhouette using a black marker. From there we selected a colour of our choice and looked at using shades of that colour in pastel to fill in the background. We were so happy with the results...check out some of our work...

Term 3 Week 6

Kia ora whanau! Wow we are already in Week 6 of Term 3 and what a busy week it has been. On Thursday the Rising Stars relocated to Room 27 where we will be staying temporarily while work in Room 17 is being completed. The Rising Stars did an amazing job during the move and we are loving our new classroom.

Olympic Athlete Study
As part of our inquiry studies we wanted to also focus on finding out about some of the athletes that participated in the Olympics. So we selected an athlete that we were interested in and went through the inquiry process and completed our posters on what we discovered. Check out our posters....

Chickens and Pigs Duty
This week the Rising Stars had the opportunity to feed the Pigs and Chickens. Take a look at some of our photos and read Maddison and Anahera's story about how we used the eggs from our school chickens.

Our Amazing Cooking Day

Today after morning tea Miss Turu chose us to bake Room 27’s rainbow cookies...well not just us...she selected 6 of us altogether to do some baking in the hall kitchen. When we arrived in the hall with Miss Falwasser, we got the keys, opened the kitchen and placed all the ingredients on the bench and took a photo. Next we got a bowl from the staffroom and the eggs (laid by our school chickens) and got started on doing our baking. We were so excited!

First we looked at the back of the rainbow cookie box to read the instructions. Once we understood what to do, we added the dry mixture into a bowl, cracked in our eggs and put in the softened butter. We then began mixing all of the ingredients together and it formed into a cookie dough. After that we rolled the dough into small balls and pressed them down slightly. Miss Falwasser then gave us the m&ms to press into the cookie dough, then we took more photos of us with the cookies. Next we put the cookies on a tray and then into the oven on 180 degrees for 15 minutes. Mmmmm….the yummy delicious smell drifted through our noses and we couldn’t wait to eat them. While the first lot of cookies were cooking we made the next batch of cookies and did exactly the same thing. After all of the cookies were made we accidently put them in the sun and then they started to melt so we put them in the shade. Later on as time was ticking by we decided to have a try of the cookies...just to test them.

So when we were finally finished, we walked around for a while in the hall and waited for Miss Falwasser to come back from the office. She said for us to go and deliver the cookies to Miss Turu who was very impressed with our baking and that was our exciting day!
