Term 4 Week 2

Basketball

This term we are very lucky to have 5 sessions with Auckland basketball every Tuesday.  For our first session Coach Adrian and Coach Marco went through what the different areas of the court were eg: baseline, sidelines and the centre line. We played some games to help us to practise some of our stances in basketball and we also worked on developing some of our ball handling skills.  We all enjoyed attending basketball and can't wait for our next session.

Niue Language Week
On Friday we had an amazing assembly to celebrate Niue Language week.  Here are some of our pics...

Lunch with Mr Naidoo

This week Pharelle and Apoua were selected for lunch with Mr Naidoo. These students have worked extremely well throughout the week and have been demonstrating their PRIDE values at our school. Here is their writing on their lunchtime experience....

LUNCH WITH MR NAIDOO

It was a bright lovely sunny day when Ms Turu had to decide which two amazing students were going to have lunch with the Deputy principal Mr Naidoo. It soon became time to chose those two people and surprisingly it was Pharelle and Apoua...which was us!

Once we got told that, we had to take a messenger tag and leave the class and walk sensibly to Mr Naidoo’s office. When we quietly entered the office we sat down and Mr Naidoo asked us what P.R.I.D.E value did we demonstrate in the classroom. Pharelle answered determination and Apoua answered determination and integrity.

While we waited for the other two students from each class to arrive Mr Naidoo politely asked if we could go to the other classes to ask for the other two kids. When everyone finally came, Tremayne led us in saying the prayer in Maori. Once we had done that we began to devour the delicious pizza made from Pizza Hut.

During the feast we said some funny jokes and talked and laughed with each other. The pizza was so delicious that as we bit through the succulent pizza the mouth watering taste of it ran through our mouths and we had to ask for more. After that we were all stuffed with food and we kindly said thank you to Mr Naidoo. We then left the office and that’s when we thought that making good choices can really pay off and take us a long way to success.

Four winds sailing trip

Four Winds sailing trip.

Last Thursday a group of students from each class in the High Flyers team were selected to attend the Four Winds sailing trip at the NZ Maritime museum. Here is a short clip of our amazing trip and Apoua also shares his writing about it.

JOURNEY TO MARITIME
MUSEUM!
By Apoua

Have you ever been on a school trip where you get to learn and experience some amazing places and facts you have never ever known in you whole entire life? I have and let me tell you about a time when about 10-12 kids from each magnificent classroom in the High Flyers got chosen to go to Maritime Museum located in Auckland City near the sky tower. It was such an amazing day!

On a dazzling light bright sunny day some people got chosen to be part of the Maritime Museum trip. First of all we all got organised at school and then we were packed onto a humongous bus and drove a long way to our destination. We had fun along the way and we saw some awesome new buildings. When we arrived there we all gathered up in front of the museum and a kind generous lady named Emma introduced us to the museum.

When we entered the museum we saw some fascinating objects as we made our way into a small room and were organised into 2 groups. Group 1 was the first to go sailing while group 2 stayed with Emma and learnt how life in the olden days took place. I was in group 1 and when we went out of the room we quickly put a life jacket on to protect us just in case of an emergency. When we went onto the ship we could feel the pressure and the wobbling of the ship going down and up.

Later on the ship stopped and we then had to pull the rope to make the sails go up. After about 5 minutes there was no wind so they decided to use the motor. It soon became time to make our way back to the museum and we quickly and sensibly got off the ship to go back to Emma for our next activity. We went into our gathering place and waited for Emma to arrive. I was so excited for the next activity! While we followed Emma we learnt about how things went on back in the days and how the used the community and the environment around them to go to their location.

A little while later we made our way towards the ships for the midday cannon. 3 2 1 Boom!!! When we heard that explosion it felt like an insane firework exploded. After that we were instructed in our separate groups and we were given a challenge, and that challenge was to find the following objects on the paper. It was so hard to find the objects but we all managed to find it. The hardest one to find was a boat because the boat looked exactly like the other boats place around Maritime museum.

Once we had finished finding the objects we quickly made our way back to the room and packed to go back onto the bus. Finally we all made it on the bus and we all felt sleepy along the way back to Rowandale Primary school. When we entered the front gate we sat near the flagpole and waited until the bell rang for us to go home. That day I knew would be a memorable moment and I hope someday I will have that amazing journey to MARITIME MUSEUM again.

Yesterday we were very lucky to have some staff from Fonterra come to visit our school. In our class our special visitors were Mark and Justin and they shared some interesting information with us on what they do and what their jobs involve.  They also attended our team assembly and it was awesome having them there.  Thank you Mark and Justin for joining us for the afternoon and we hope you enjoyed your time with us.
