Week Eight

Guided Reading Session

In Reading we have been building our understanding of the text through using comprehension strategies.  One of the strategies we looked at this week was asking questions about the text. We looked at our learning intention and created our success criteria together to show how we will achieve it.

Special Glasses Ceremony

On Thursday this week a very special assembly was held to present some of our Year 5 and 6 students with their prescription glasses.  It was so amazing to see all of the beautiful students on stage wearing their glasses with pride. Here are some of our pics....

Congratulations to Maddison for working super hard to complete her creative playground design. She has definitely put a lot of time and thought into creating her 3D model and has used a variety of different materials to put it together.  Fantastic effort Maddison.

Well done to all the Rising Stars who completed their homework task for Week 8 which was the inventors challenge.  Great job Apoua with your robot design and Sasha with your tank design.

Week Seven

Problem Solving Maths

This week in Maths we worked in cooperative learning groups to solve Maths word problems.  First we discussed what we would need to do to make sure we worked well together as a group.

Some ideas were.....
- taking turns
- sharing our ideas
- working as a team
- give it a go
- help and encourage our team
- be respectful
- include everyone
- listen to others ideas

Reading and understanding the problems
From there we got into smaller mixed groups and looked at the three levelled word problems.  We had to read through the problems first and then we had to discuss what it meant, visualise what it looked like and find out what the problem was actually asking. We then got back together as a large group to share our thoughts.

Solving the problems
The next step was to work on solving the problems in our small groups.  So each group found a space in the class to work in and had to record their working out and explain what they were doing. It was really important to make sure that everyone in the group understood how to solve the problem.

Sharing how we solved the problems
From there we had to share our working out with the larger group. Some groups came up to share their working out and explained the strategies they used.  Check out our photos...

Feed the Need

In our school we have been super lucky to receive soups and bread from Feed the Need for our lunches on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Here are some of the Rising Stars thoughts about it....

"I think Feed the Need is nice because there are lots of different choices".
Harrieta

"It always warms me up and it's so delicious and tasty".
Anahera

"I like Feed the Need because they support our school and provide food for the people who really need it."
Margaret

"I think Feed the Need is a really helpful support agency and probably one of the best in the world."
Paul

"I love eating the soups and the buns that come with it. I really enjoyed the nacho one".

Homework

Well done to all the Rising Stars who completed their homework task from Week 6.  The task was to design a new playground for school and Paul decided to take it to the next level and created a 3D model of his playground. Tumeke Paul!
