Hiwi Kiwi Show

Student Blog Reporter: Margaret

This morning at Rowandale School the Rising Stars had the chance to go and watch Hiwi the Kiwi with all the classes in the school hall. It was a very entertaining show with singing and dancing and we learnt lots of things like never getting on a boat without a life jacket and when we are fishing we have to make sure we don't take fish that are too small. We also were reminded to make sure we don't litter in the sea otherwise the rubbish could kill some of the seabirds because the birds will try to eat anything in the water.

Term 3 Week 4

Bring a Can Mufti Day

This week we had our bring a can mufti day to support our local community at the Manurewa Marae. The Rising Stars were very keen and excited to contribute and support this very worthwhile initiative.

Feed the Need

On Friday it was the last day for our Feed the Need programme.   We are very grateful and appreciate the delicious hot lunches this amazing organisation have provided for us over the past few months. Here are some pics of us enjoying our last feed the need meal and the special thank you card we made.

Term 3 Focus Wall

Our focus wall is up at the back of our classroom and this informs us about what we are learning about during the term in all areas.

Topic Inquiry Study

This week in our inquiry study we wrote on post-it notes about what we knew about the sportswear and sports equipment athletes use at the Olympics; and worked on forming some questions that we could investigate.  We looked at the difference between closed questions and open ended questions and built up an understanding that open-ended questions would be more suitable for our research investigations.  Open-ended questions require a more in-depth and lengthier response compared to closed questions, that usually require a one word or single sentence type answer.

Mayo

On Friday we were super lucky to have Mayo come to perform for our school at a special assembly. Mayo is the stage name of 21-year-old hip hop dancer Seantum Rapana from Pukekohe who has mastered the art of liquid dance.  It was awesome to have him at our school, to watch his dance numbers and to listen to him talk about the fact that we all have gifts and talents, even though we might not realise what they are; and that we should follow our dreams.

Olympics

Our Olympics opening ceremony on Friday was absolutely amazing and each class had the opportunity to wave their flags and present some interesting facts about their class country. Here are some of our pics...

Topic Inquiry Study
We have already begun our inquiry study about the Olympics and have been looking at the first stage of exploring, defining and planning.  We have brainstormed what we know about our topic and will be creating questions that we would like to investigate around our technology focus area: Sports wear and sports equipment at the Olympics.

Cook Island Language Week: Making our Ei's

One of the activities we did for Cook Island Language Week was making our own ei's. We used our devices and looked at different ideas on how to make flowers for our ei's.  We then began using coloured paper to create some of our own. Check out some of our photos...

Here are some pics of the Rising Stars wearing their completed ei's....
