Week One

This week The Rising Stars have settled back into school really well and are excited to see what the new term brings.  We have discussed our classroom rules, expectations and our school PRIDE values to ensure we are on the right track to managing ourselves and ready to achieve the goals we set in our learning.

Our theme for this term is Me and my Community, and in our class we will be looking at creating our own question or questions, and using the inquiry process of deciding, finding, selecting, using, presenting and evaluating to investigate it.

Today in Reading the Bears group performed their very first play called Double Feature in front of the whole class and did an amazing job entertaining us.  Their learning focus was to read fluently with expression and they very much achieved that!  It was great to see how confident they were and when the play was finished the rest of the class gave them some awesome feedback on their performance. Tumeke Bears!

In Maths over the next four weeks our focus is on multiplication and division.  We have been building up our knowledge and instant recall of our timetables to enable us to use different strategies to solve multiplication and division problems with higher numbers.  Here are some pics of a few members of the yellow group using place value to solve one of the problems. Well done Dantae, Paul and Gabriel!

Last Friday the Rising Stars and Kung Fu Pandas hosted the whole school assembly.  They were super excited to present their dance item to everyone. Here is a small clip of our dance item to the song " Better when I'm dancing".

Performing Plays

The Alligators reading group has been practising reading journal plays and have been working on performing these in front of the class.  We have been learning to read our texts fluently with expression and after each performance the group receives feedback from the class on what they did really well and what they need to work on for next time.  Well done Alligators!

Poems

Writing: Bio poems

Last week the Rising Stars created their own bio poems.  A bio poem is a simple poem written about a person and it follows a predictable pattern.  Bio poems generally don't rhyme and they can be autobiographical.  Here are some of our Bio poems we wrote and published...

Writing: Colour Poems

We also made colour poems, which is where we chose 6 colours and created sentences about what we thought each colour represented.  Check out some of our awesome poems...

Buddy Class Time- The Rising Stars meet The Kung Fu Pandas

Today our awesome buddy class "The Kung Fu Pandas" came to visit us and spend some time in our classroom.  This was our first time meeting together so we were pretty excited to see them and make some new friends.

The Rising Stars got to choose one of the little Kung Fu Pandas to be their buddy and they all were given the opportunity to spend some time getting to know one another. Some buddies spent time chatting and getting ready for the introductions, while others did some reading and drew some artistic drawings.  It was so great to see how well they all were all getting along and enjoying each others company.

Thank you Miss Fuataga and The Kung Fu Pandas for coming to see us today, and we look forward to seeing you again many more times throughout the year.

Check out our awesome photos....
